Plans submitted for another Lincolnshire solar farm that could power 45,000 homes – Yahoo News UK

A planning application has been submitted for a solar farm near Louth.
Total Energies has requested planning permission from East Lindsey District Council for North Ray Solar Farm, between North Thoresby and Ludborough.
If approved, the 226 hectare site – the equivalent of around 340 football pitches – would generate enough electricity to power over 45,000 family homes each year.

The site currently agricultural land, used for cereal crop production for animal feed and includes woodland and hedgerows.
A spokesperson for the project stated: “We’re grateful to everyone who took the time to respond to our consultation. Since we consulted, we’ve made several updates to the proposal.
“Our biodiversity net gain approach confirms measures on the site such as new grassland areas and improved drainage features.
“These changes help support local wildlife, increase habitat diversity and contribute to long-term environmental benefits for the area.”

They explained that a nearby Bronze Age burial mound will also be protected in the plan, and a community orchard will be planted to create a green space for local residents and provide a buffer area, which will be maintained by TotalEnergies.
They continued: “With the potential to generate enough clean energy to power over 45,000 homes every year, the project will make a meaningful contribution to Britain’s domestic energy security and help meet our climate change commitments.
“If consented, the project will deliver an annual community benefit fund of £70,000 (index-linked).”
However, Lincolnshire Against Needless Destruction (LAND) has expressed its frustration at the plans, and claims the developer has split its plan into two phases, a 98MW and a 180MW site.
Cat Makinson, a spokesperson for LAND, said: “Residents deserve absolute honesty. North Ray may sit just under the NSIP threshold, but the scale, footprint and long-term consequences are anything but small.
“When a developer still holds a 1,200-acre agreement, it is reasonable for communities to question whether they are being shown the full picture.
“This is not simply a 98MW scheme — it is the first phase of a much larger industrialisation of the Wolds’ setting. People have a right to understand what may follow.”
Regarding this, the spokesperson for the project added: “The planning application we have submitted to East Lindsey District Council is for North Ray, a 98MW solar farm.
“While the site had historically been considered as part of a wider concept, TotalEnergies undertook a thorough assessment of deliverability, timing and environmental considerations.
“As a result, North Ray was identified as the most appropriate scheme to progress and is the project under development.”
