Tandem PV, a California-based developer of perovskite-silicon solar panels, has opened a commercial demonstration factory in Fremont, California, as it moves toward commercial manufacturing. The 65,000-square-foot facility is producing tandem solar panels on a line with approximately 40 MW of annual nameplate capacity, and the panels are roughly 60 times larger than the company’s R&D-scale devices. The Fremont facility is being used to test large-format tandem solar panel production for utility-scale applications. Tandem PV said its panel design combines a thin perovskite light-absorbing layer with a conventional silicon solar cell. The company has reported 29.7% efficiency based on internal testing, while accelerated lifetime testing showed less than 1% average annual power loss, and is targeting 25+ year performance. Tandem PV has begun producing initial modules, plans customer validation trial shipments later this year, expects first commercial panel sales in 2026, and is targeting high-volume manufacturing in 2028.
