Coal India’s Renewable Energy Push Takes Concrete Shape
This is the first confirmed solar EPC project award from Coal India to SWREL, marking a strategic shift for the Maharatna PSU as it diversifies beyond coal mining into utility-scale solar development. The project is located in Bikaner, Rajasthan – one of India’s highest solar irradiation zones.
The scope includes:
Full turn-key engineering, procurement, and construction
Grid connectivity
Multi-year O&M services (inclusive in the ₹3,490 crore value)
Additional 50 MW Order from Private IPP in Maharashtra
Alongside the Coal India win, SWREL has also received a separate order for a 50 MW AC solar project in Maharashtra from a leading Indian private independent power producer (IPP).
FY26 Order Inflows Cross ₹10,062 Crore
With these additions, SWREL’s total EPC order inflow for FY26 has exceeded ₹10,062 crore – significantly surpassing the company’s initial annual target.
Chandra Kishore Thakur, Global CEO, Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy Group, stated: “We are delighted to announce our first project from Coal India, and to partner in their renewable energy growth story. We are excited to close an eventful FY26 on a strong note and achieve more than INR 10,000 crore in EPC order inflows, which is significantly higher than our initial target set for the year. India continues to remain on a strong growth trajectory in renewable development and as one of India’s leading solar EPC companies we continue to look forward to sustaining the growth momentum.”
