Amicus O&M Cooperative introduced a new online training course on May 11, 2026, according to a report by Kelly Pickerel. The program is designed to elevate solar and battery storage operations and maintenance technicians from supervised helpers to fully competent professionals.
The course, called the Solar PV and BESS O&M Tech 2 Training Program, consists of 30 hours of online instruction and is available through Amicus O&M Cooperative as well as on HeatSpring.com.
Amicus O&M Cooperative’s CEO, Amanda Bybee, explained that many individuals enter O&M roles without formal training. She noted that while hands-on learning is valuable, training that only focuses on immediate issues tends to be opportunistic rather than systematic, potentially leaving knowledge gaps. The new program aims to address those gaps and help technicians connect theoretical concepts with real-world application.
The Tech 2 curriculum covers advanced skills expected of a proficient O&M technician, including electrical and photovoltaic theory, advanced diagnostics, testing and system performance assessment, troubleshooting, battery systems, and cybersecurity. The program is self-paced, allowing companies to provide training to employees as needed and on their own schedule.
The Solar PV and BESS O&M Tech 2 program satisfies the educational requirements for NABCEP’s PV Commissioning and Maintenance Specialist certification and meets all continuing education requirements for NABCEP recertifications. Additionally, it aligns with the SEIA 301 ANSI standard, which serves as the industry benchmark for O&M technician competency.
