A new solar PV plant is planned for Nottinghamshire, with public consultations for the 49.9MW plant beginning yesterday.
The Barrons Solar Farm is being developed by Perigus Energy, which is the European renewable energy platform launched by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) on 1 May, after the completion of its £1.25 billion acquisition of a portfolio from Ørsted.
Barrons Solar Farm is expected to connect to the National Grid at Gedling Substation via underground cabling. It is the first addition to Perigus Energy’s pipeline since its formation.
The portfolio inherited by CIP covers onshore renewables in the UK, Ireland, Germany and Spain. It includes a gigawatt of planned solar PV projects in the UK, comprising just two large-scale sites.
The two sites are the 740MW One Earth Solar project, currently awaiting a planning decision from the secretary of state which is due in July this year, and the 500MW Clean Air solar plant, currently under public consultation. Both are being developed in partnership with PS Renewables, making the Barrons Solar site the first to be brought forward by Perigus alone. It also differs from the inherited sites in that plans do not currently feature co-located battery energy storage.

While CIP's asset acquisition covered Ørsted's onshore wind, solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in Ireland, the UK, Germany, and Spain, evidently including projects developed in collaboration with other firms, Ørsted confirmed to Solar Power Portal when the transaction was announced that its under-construction 300MW/600MWh BESS, co-located with the 2.9GW Hornsea 3 offshore wind project, is not part of the sale.
