With summer quickly approaching, it’s time for solar energy to shine brightly! To help Maine homeowners and businesses as they consider this renewable option, Aurora Roofing & Solar is making solar feel clear, useful, and approachable for everyone.
Based in Farmington, the company installs rooftop solar, roofing, and small ground-mounted backyard systems, intentionally avoiding large solar farms. Owner Troy Hull says that distinction reflects Aurora’s commitment to protecting both Maine properties and Maine landscapes.
Illuminating information for all customers
For customers, the message isn’t simply “add panels.” It’s about understanding how solar works, how net metering allows property owners to bank energy on sunny days to offset needs on other days, and what type of system makes sense for a specific building. That educational approach is central to the business as they work to connect Maine residents to reliable, environmentally responsible power.
While solar is more visible across the state, Hull says many homeowners still feel uncertain, especially when offers sound straightforward but can carry higher long-term costs than expected. Aurora Roofing & Solar is focused on providing as much knowledge as possible while keeping the work and the contracts simple. Their team guides customers through the pros and cons of paying cash, financing, power purchase agreements, permitting, and solar leases so they can comfortably make a decision.
One company with double the value
Aurora Roofing & Solar’s dual expertise in roofing and solar is also a practical advantage. Because most residential solar is mounted on rooftops, the company can treat the roof and the energy system as one connected project rather than two separate scopes. In addition to solar installations, Aurora provides traditional shingle roofing, standing seam metal roofing, and liquid-applied silicone roofing for flat or low-slope roofs.
What Aurora wants customers to take away, Hull said, is that going solar shouldn’t feel rushed or confusing. The goal is careful design, clear contracts, and a system tailored to each unique property.
About the owner and the business
Hull’s interest in the work is personal as well as professional. After graduating from Vassar College in 2002 with a degree in Ethnobotany, he spent years painting houses in western Maine while looking for a path more directly tied to sustainability. The business was incorporated as Aurora Contracting in 2009 and later evolved into Aurora Roofing & Solar as the renewable side grew.
