DT Infrastructure, the Australian subsidiary of Malaysian engineering powerhouse Gamuda Bhd(GAMUDA), has commenced construction on the Jinbi Solar Farm in Western Australia’s resource-rich Pilbara region, New Straits Times reports. Developed for Yindjibarndi Energy Corporation (YEC), the 75-megawatt (MW) facility represents a landmark convergence of heavy industry decarbonisation and Indigenous-led equity.
Project mobilisation is already underway, with full completion targeted for early 2028. Located in Yindjibarndi Ngurra, approximately 56 kilometres south of the mining hub of Karratha, the project is strategically positioned to feed directly into the region’s industrial backbone.
The facility will deploy roughly 160,000 solar panels across the sun-drenched Pilbara landscape. Once operational, the green electricity will blend into Rio Tinto(RIO)’s regional power network, directly lowering the carbon footprint of the mining giant’s massive iron ore operations. The project acts as a critical path toward building a more reliable, sustainable and electrified industrial grid in Western Australia.
YEC was established in 2023 with an ambitious mandate to develop up to 3 gigawatts (GW) of clean capacity across 13,000 square kilometres of native title land. The Jinbi project is the opening act for YEC’s broader Chichester Range and Eastern Development Zone hubs, which collectively back 1.5 GW of proposed wind, solar, and battery storage.
The Jinbi project marks another major notch in Gamuda’s aggressive expansion into the Asia Pacific renewable energy market. Operating through DT Infrastructure, the group has rapidly built a diversified, multi-gigawatt pipeline of generation and transmission assets across Australia, including Marinus Link (Stage 1), the critical subsea interconnector between Tasmania and Victoria, as well as the wind & solar assets of The Carmody’s Hill and Boulder Creek Wind Farms, alongside the Goulburn River Solar Farm.
