Italian energy agency GSE has outlined plans for renewable energy auctions in 2026 and 2027 that will award 10 GW of solar capacity and 16 GW of wind power, according to the agency’s announcement.
GSE Chief Executive Vinicio Mose Vigilante stated that the goal is to hold one auction by the end of 2026 and two more in 2027. He added that discussions with the European Union regarding final approval of the tenders are nearly complete.
In the first auction under the FerX scheme, finalized in December 2025, GSE allocated 7.700 MW of photovoltaic capacity across 474 projects. The procurement initially drew 1,387 project proposals totaling 17,537 MW. The average awarded price for PV in that auction was EUR0.05682 per kWh, which came in 37.34% below the ceiling price set by Italian authorities, with the highest accepted bid at EUR0.06267 per kWh.
The same auction assigned 940 MW of wind capacity across 29 projects, at an average final price of EUR0.07285 per kWh.
In the second solar auction under the FerX incentive scheme, GSE allocated 1.1 GW of PV capacity. This was Italy’s first solar auction to apply the resilience criteria mandated by the EU’s Net Zero Industry Act. For PV projects larger than 1 MW, the Italian government excluded the use of solar modules, cells, and inverters from China. The auction concluded with an average final price of EUR0.06637 per kWh, which was 27.7% below the EUR0.073 cap price set by GSE. The average award price was only EUR0.010 per kWh higher than that of the first auction, which did not include the NZIA criteria. GSE reviewed 273 project proposals with a combined capacity of 3.16 GW, selecting 88 projects.
