ContourGlobal, global independent power producer, has commenced operations of the battery energy storage system at its Victor Jara hybrid plant in Tarapacá, Chile. The project combines a 231 MW solar PV facility with a 1.3 GWh battery system capable of delivering up to 200 MW for 6.5 hours after sunset. The company said the project is the longest-duration utility-scale BESS currently operating in Latin America. Victor Jara operates under a 15-year night-only power purchase agreement with Copec EMOAC, enabling the delivery of stored solar power during evening demand peaks. Together with the 221 MWp Quillagua solar project and 1.2 GWh storage facility, ContourGlobal’s solar-plus-storage portfolio in Chile is now fully operational. The company said it has reached 850 MW of solar PV and storage capacity in operation across the country.
