EDF Power Solutions North America and Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company – Masdar have signed 15-year power purchase agreements for a solar-plus-storage facility in California, as announced on June 2. The agreements, covering the output of the BigBeau project, were disclosed by the source.
The BigBeau project includes a 128MW solar photovoltaic array and a 40MW/160MWh battery energy storage system. It has been operational since December 2022. On February 1, 2026, the facility began supplying electricity to utility Southern California Edison under the new contracts.
Masdar acquired a 50% stake in BigBeau from EDF in 2023. The project is part of a broader partnership between Masdar and EDF encompassing eight projects with a combined capacity of 1.6GW. That portfolio includes five solar projects totaling 689MW and two utility-scale wind farms representing 815MW, all of which are currently operational.
Three years before BigBeau came online, EDF had signed 15-year PPAs with California Community Choice Aggregators Monterey Bay Community Energy and Silicon Valley Clean Energy.
In May, EDF announced a five-year battery energy storage system supply agreement with Ford Energy, a wholly owned subsidiary of Ford Motor Company. The agreement allows EDF to procure up to 4GWh of BESS from Ford Energy annually, with a total potential volume of up to 20GWh. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2028.
Also in May, Masdar selected Chinese solar inverter manufacturer and BESS integrator Sungrow as a supplier for the world’s first gigawatt-scale 24/7 dispatchable renewable energy project in the UAE. That project, co-developed by Masdar and utility Emirates Water and Electricity Company, will feature 5.2GWdc of solar PV paired with 19GWh of battery storage, enabling the continuous delivery of 1GW of clean energy. Its location within Abu Dhabi has not been disclosed. Construction began in October 2025, and the project is expected to become operational in 2027.
