A NEW solar power plan for Coventry schools has been confirmed by the city council in a move to cut bills.
– BY DAVID BENTLEY News Reporter
Applications have been submitted to install solar panels on three schools in the city – the first to be part of the green energy initiative.
The city council hopes the move away from traditional fossil fuels will cut energy bills and reduce reliance on gas and oil, which are prone to sudden price rises when supply issues are caused by global pressures such as the Russia-Ukraine War and Middle East conflict.
E.ON has submitted planning applications for solar panels on three schools as part of a wider programme being delivered through a strategic energy partnership between the authority and the energy giant. Cllr Lynnette Kelly, Labour’s Deputy Leader and the Cabinet member for jobs, regeneration and climate change, said, ‘‘This is a great step forward in bringing solar energy to more schools across Coventry. This group of three schools are the first of fifteen and of course our wider ambition is for all schools in the city.
