Mexico’s Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) awarded approximately 6,710 MW of photovoltaic capacity in its first call for projects under mixed development schemes with private partners, as part of a total renewable energy package of 7,411 MW.
The results establish solar as the dominant technology in the procurement exercise. The awarded photovoltaic capacity is nearly double the initial requirement of 3,550 MW, while wind power accounted for approximately 700 MW against a target of 2,850 MW. No concentrated solar power (CSP) projects were selected, despite an initial allocation of 100 MW.
Overall, the CFE selected 37 renewable energy projects under the mixed development scheme: 33 solar photovoltaic projects totaling around 6,710 MW and four wind projects totaling approximately 700 MW. The portfolio represents an estimated investment of $7.4 billion and exceeds the initial tender requirement of 6,500 MW.
The call for projects forms part of the CFE’s Mixed Development Schemes. Registration through the Energy Window (Ventanilla de Energía) opened on Feb. 6, 2026. Under the program, the CFE partners with private developers on power generation projects according to established guidelines for project evaluation, selection, and development.
Among the companies securing the largest number of projects are Cubico México, with four developments, and Eléctrica Aselco, with three. Atlantica Renewable Power México and Solarig each obtained two projects. Other companies included in the selected portfolio are Thermion Energy, Oak Creek, Elawan Energy, Fisterra Energy, Freeman Energy, GP Renewables de México, SQ Infraestructura, Sol de Sonora, and Global Solar America 3.
The selected portfolio includes projects such as El Chorro, Santa Gertrudis, El Guajillo, Montecristo, Energeo Los Molinos, Energía Limpia El Mezquite, Reysol Energy Center, Rancho Grande, San Simón Solar, Solitario, CFV Quasara, El Palmar, La Pasión, Álvaro Obregón, Tikinmul, Kiin, SAAS, Haab Kiin, Dalia 3 PV, Global Solar 3 Campeche, and Los Girasoles, among others.
The outcome underscores the central role of photovoltaic technology in Mexico’s latest renewable energy procurement, while wind power captured a much smaller share of the awarded capacity despite an initial allocation that was comparable to solar.
