DE KALB, Texas – Northeast Texas is becoming a massive hub for renewable energy.
One of the newest solar energy projects is under construction in Bowie County.
Rabbit’s Foot Solar is a 298-megawatt clean energy project currently being built on County Road 4306 just off Highway 259 near DeKalb. Global energy company, RWE and technology giant, Meta, recently partnered on the solar farm project.
Once operational, RWE officials say the energy generated at Rabbit’s Foot will support Meta’s goal of matching its operations with 100% clean energy.
According to published reports, Meta primarily uses solar energy to power its AI data centers.
The Rabbit’s Foot solar project is expected to create about 200 construction jobs and generate about $50 million in tax revenue over 40 years.
“It’s going to be a great generator of long-term revenue for schools and the infrastructure in the neighborhood. It’s a big step towards ensuring that Bowie County is set for growth that’s coming in the future. That 298 megawatts is enough energy to power about 45,000 homes. So it’s a big project and we’re looking forward to continuing the growth,” said Marcus Gann, RWE utility scale development manager.
The project is on target to reach commercial operations by late next year.
Rabbit’s Foot Solar is the fourth power purchase agreement signed between RWE and Meta since 2024.
