EMC ELICOM consortium wins 3 MW Nioki Centre solar contract in DRC – Green Building Africa

The EMC ELICOM consortium has been awarded a contract to construct a 3 MW solar photovoltaic power plant in Nioki Centre, located in Maï Ndombe Province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The project forms part of the national push to expand electricity access in rural and peri urban areas.
The contract was issued by ANSER, the government agency responsible for accelerating electrification services outside major urban centres. The 3 MW facility is positioned as the largest installation within ANSER’s current decentralized energy programme rollout.
Nioki Centre, situated in Maï Ndombe Province, is a strategic transport and logging hub located along the Fimi River. Despite its economic relevance, the area has historically faced limited and unreliable electricity supply, constraining industrial activity and public services.
Once operational, the solar plant is expected to improve power stability for households and commercial users, while enabling growth in local processing activities such as milling and water production. It will also reduce dependence on diesel generators, lowering energy costs for businesses operating in the region.
