SAEL, an Indian renewable energy firm, has started construction on a 10GW integrated solar manufacturing plant in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, via its fully owned subsidiary SAEL Solar P6 Private Limited.
The facility occupies a 200-acre plot in Sector 8 of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) area in Gautam Buddha Nagar. It will feature 5GW of solar cell production capacity and 5GW of module production capacity.
After completion, the site will produce tunnel oxide passivated contact (TOPCon) solar cells and modules for the Indian market. The project is forecast to create roughly 20,000 local employment opportunities.
Sukhbir Singh, director of SAEL Industries, noted that the initial outlay is INR82 billion (US$867 million) for setting up 5GW of solar cell and 5GW of solar module manufacturing in Jewar. He characterized the venture as India’s commitment to its own energy independence, adding that Uttar Pradesh is advancing toward its US$1 trillion economic target. He expressed appreciation to the Uttar Pradesh government, YEIDA, and other partners for enabling the project.
The company originally disclosed its plans for the facility in July 2025. When it becomes operational, SAEL’s overall solar manufacturing capacity is expected to reach 8.5GW.
This development joins a rising number of solar manufacturing initiatives in Uttar Pradesh as India boosts domestic output under its import substitution and clean energy manufacturing policy.
In May 2026, SAEL brought online 600MW of solar PV capacity in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh. The two 300MW installations, SAEL Solar MHP1 and SAEL Solar MHP2, were built with an investment of nearly INR30 billion (US$311 million) on over 2,400 acres. These plants entered commercial operation earlier in 2026. They employ more than 1.2 million TOPCon bifacial solar modules, with the majority assembled at SAEL’s facilities in Punjab and Rajasthan.
