CANTON — The 30-acre Old Dekalb Road solar farm is developing slowly, but town officials haven’t received an escrow payment that is needed for it to move forward.
Aurora Renewables, based in Florida, is building the facility with 8,700 panels that are expected to generate four megawatts.
The previous owner, BS Canton LLC, had a site plan and environmental review approved three years ago. Aurora took over the site earlier in the year.
During the May 13 town board meeting, board members passed a motion authorizing the town supervisor to enter into a $60,000 escrow agreement with Aurora.
During the June town board meeting, Code Enforcement Officer Mike McQuade said paperwork has been exchanged but money hasn’t.
Town Supervisor Jim Smith said the $60,000 is the same the town received from five other solar operations to cover related legal fees and environmental reviews.
Smith said the town needs the money before Aurora can meet with code enforcement to apply for a building permit.
