Meta partnership to bring a solar power farm to Bowie County, Texas – KSLA

BOWIE COUNTY, Texas (KSLA) – A German energy company, RWE Americas, is expanding its partnership with Meta for a solar power project in Bowie County, Texas.
The two companies annouced their new long-term agreement on June 11.
This agreement is for electricity to be generated by a 298-megawatt solar power farm called Rabbit’s Foot.
The solar power project is to create nearly 200 local construction jobs and generate 50 million in long-term tax revenues over 40 years for the county, says RWE Americas.
DeKalb Independent School District, Texarkana College, and Emergency District #6 are among those that will benefit from the tax money generated through this project.
“By investing in Bowie County, we’re not only creating approximately 200 local construction jobs, but also generating substantial long-term tax revenue that will help support schools, technical education programs, emergency services, and critical road maintenance and infrastructure improvements across the community,” says Ingmar Ritzenhofen, the Chief Commercial Officer for RWE Americas.
The project already started on-site construction earlier this year.
When it’s up and running, Rabbit’s Foot will generate energy to support Meta’s goal of matching its operations with 100% clean energy.
Rabbit’s Foot is expected to begin commercial operations by the end of 2027, says RWE Americas.
This is the fourth solar power deal between the two companies in two years.
The companies previously signed agreements for other solar power projects in both Texas and Louisiana. They are located in Bastrop County and Ouachita Parish. Bastrop’s Waterloo solar facility generates 200 megawatts, and Ouachita’s Lafitte solar project generates 100 megawatts.
