The Tamil Nadu government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Vikram Solar to establish a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) manufacturing facility at the SIPCOT Industrial Park in Gangaikondan, Tirunelveli district. The project will involve an investment of ₹15,037 crore and is expected to strengthen the state’s clean energy manufacturing ecosystem.
The MoU was signed at the State Secretariat during an event organised by the Department of Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce in the presence of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay.
According to the state government, the project is expected to generate around 2,670 direct and indirect employment opportunities.
Vikram Solar was represented at the signing by Chairman and Managing Director Gyanesh Chaudhary, Chief Executive Officer Arun Mittal and Capital Investment Project Director Ashwini Agarwal.
The proposed investment marks the company’s expansion into advanced battery energy storage manufacturing, complementing its existing solar manufacturing operations in Tamil Nadu.
Vikram Solar already operates two solar photovoltaic (PV) module manufacturing facilities in the state at Oragadam and Vallam. The company has also established an integrated manufacturing complex for solar PV cells and modules at Gangaikondan.
The addition of a large-scale BESS manufacturing plant is expected further to strengthen Vikram Solar’s manufacturing footprint in Tamil Nadu while supporting the growing demand for energy storage solutions alongside renewable power deployment.
The state government said the investment reflects Tamil Nadu’s continued focus on attracting large-scale clean energy manufacturing projects and expanding its industrial base.
Tamil Nadu Industries Minister S. Keerthana, Chief Secretary M. Saikumar, senior government officials and representatives from Vikram Solar attended the MoU signing ceremony.
