On July 15, 2026, Xpanner announced the X1 Panel Lift, an intelligent solar panel installation system built on an excavator platform. The technology, initially applied to pile drivers for solar piling tasks, has been broadened to automate the lifting and positioning of panels.
The X1 Panel Lift is engineered for repetitive material handling in large-scale solar projects, allowing installation teams to dedicate their efforts to panel alignment, fastening, and quality verification. Henri Lee, co-founder and CEO of Xpanner, noted that solar installation has historically been limited by the need for large, skilled crews and intricate equipment. He stated that the new system changes this dynamic by managing both piling and panel lifting with a single machine, a single button, and a unified workflow that any operator can handle from the first use.
This system transports the PV panel box, extracts panels directly from it, and installs them using just one excavator, removing the requirement for separate feeding machinery like a compact track loader or forklift. By consolidating panel transport, picking, and placement into a single unit, the X1 decreases the number of equipment items and specialized roles needed to maintain crew productivity. Its automated one-button workflow leads the operator through the entire installation process—pick-up, lifting, placement, and pre-release—via an intuitive visual interface that demands no special training, aiding contractors in staffing and expanding crews in a constrained labor market.
The X1 automates repetitive panel handling while maintaining full operator control through a straightforward remote interface. Instead of replacing the installer, the system aids the crew with automated vacuum handling and assisted panel positioning. Integrated Precision Align Assist ensures consistent, uniform panel placement across each cycle. Sensor-controlled handling is designed to deliver the same accuracy and speed from the first panel to the last, and a standardized installation sequence with audio and visual signals helps crews follow a repeatable process on every project.
The X1 is driven by Mango, Xpanner’s proprietary automation controller designed for real-time decision-making and precise control over hydraulic, electric, and mechanical systems. The system combines data from LIDAR, vision, and GNSS sensors to create a live 3D model of the worksite, providing the situational awareness needed to maintain consistent output under varying field conditions. Since the platform’s automation software and sensing stack are mounted on a standard excavator, Xpanner plans to expand the same architecture to other jobsite workflows over time, offering new capabilities to existing customers through software updates rather than new equipment purchases.
Xpanner provides the X1 Panel Lift through a single, all-inclusive subscription that covers hardware, the X1 kit and license, Xpanner Connect software, and on-site field operations support. No upfront capital investment is required, and there is no need to manage multiple vendors. The subscription includes Xpanner Connect, a real-time dashboard that gives project managers live visibility into machine status, production progress, and fleet activity. The Xpanner Field Operations (XFO) team offers hands-on support at every stage, from demonstration and site validation through project scope and setup, training and operation, maintenance, and subscription conclusion.
