TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Sino-American Silicon and United Renewable Energy announced a joint venture Tuesday to build a solar panel factory in the US targeting rising power demand from AI data centers.
The firms plan to invest NT$1.3 billion (US$40 million) in the project, which will be led by industry veteran Yeh Cheng-hsien (葉正賢). The plant will focus on US manufacturing while combining the two firms’ supply chain, research and development, and marketing strengths.
The companies said the US is continuing to push for energy independence and domestically made products, while rapid AI data center expansion is boosting demand for reliable clean electricity. They said customers increasingly want products that are locally made, safe, and affordable.
The firms said the partnership will strengthen service and supply flexibility in North America, allowing them to benefit from US energy transition policies and incentives. They added that Taiwan’s manufacturing capabilities remain competitive as global supply chains shift.
Sino-American Silicon Chair Doris Hsu (徐秀蘭) said the company will contribute its decades of experience in solar cell manufacturing, management, and supply chain integration. URE Chair Hong Chum-sam (洪傳獻) said the company will bring solar panel technology, quality management, and extensive experience operating in the US.
Both firms said they are committed to building a local manufacturing base to deliver solar panels of consistent quality with strong support for US customers. They said the partnership demonstrates Taiwan’s role in the global energy transition and in supply chains moving toward trusted, localized production.
