The Canary Islands government council approved on Monday a new boost for the businesses of the Count’s family in southern Gran Canaria. The municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana has been chosen as the site for the upcoming launch of the “Arguineguín 1 Agricultural Photovoltaic Park” project, an installation that symbolizes the commitment to decarbonization in a key area for the archipelago’s tourism and agricultural sectors. The initiative, promoted by Agrícola Arguineguín, SLU, has an installed capacity of 2 megawatts, positioning it as a strategic infrastructure within the island’s energy modernization plan.

The plant will be located in Polygon 18, specifically on plot 88, in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana. This location, characterized by its optimal solar radiation conditions, will allow for maximizing the performance of this cutting-edge technology. The Canary Islands Government’s Directorate General of Energy, acting as the competent substantive body, has approved submitting the file, identified under reference ER220673, to the mandatory public consultation process, thus complying with the guarantees of transparency and citizen participation required by current regulations.

The project’s technical scope is remarkable. The photovoltaic installation design includes the placement of 4.030 Jinko Solar Tiger Neo N-type 78HL4-BDV Bifacial modules, each with a peak power of 600 watts. These panels will be mounted on a mobile metal structure, a technical solution that will allow them to track the sun and optimize energy capture throughout daylight hours. The plant will be completed with eight 250-kilowatt string inverters, which will convert the direct current (DC) to alternating current (AC) for subsequent transmission to the electrical grid.

The infrastructure also includes critical elements for the control and management of the generated energy. A 2.000-kilovolt-ampere transformer substation and a switching, protection, and metering center will be installed, both housed in a prefabricated concrete building that ensures the system’s safety and stability. The photovoltaic park will have an internal medium-voltage line at 20 kilovolts and will be integrated into the existing overhead distribution network within the same plot, thus facilitating its connection to the Gran Canaria electrical grid.

The planned financial investment underscores the importance of this project. With a total construction budget of €1.525.226, the project not only aims to generate clean energy but also stimulate local economic activity by creating specialized jobs during the assembly, commissioning, and maintenance phases. This expenditure is justified by the need to move towards a distributed generation model that reduces dependence on traditional fossil fuels, an objective shared by the regional government and industry operators.

The technical details of the project, along with the corresponding annex, have been made available to the public through the Canary Islands Government’s website. This public consultation period allows interested parties to examine the documentation and submit any comments they deem appropriate. The authorities are committed to ensuring that this infrastructure, in addition to fulfilling its technical function, is harmoniously integrated into the landscape, complying with the environmental and safety standards established by the Regulation governing the administrative procedures for the construction and commissioning of electrical installations in the Canary Islands.

The deployment of this plant is another step in consolidating southern Gran Canaria as a leading center for the use of renewable energy.
