Aiko, a Chinese manufacturer of solar cells and modules, has earned a PV Module Anti-Ignition Hazard certification from Germany-based technical services provider TUV Rheinland. The company states that its all-back contact (ABC) modules are the first photovoltaic products to receive this specific certification from TUV Rheinland.
In TUV Rheinland’s evaluation, Aiko’s ABC panels exhibited hot spot temperatures more than 35 percent lower than those of TOPCon panels. This recognition arrives as Europe contends with increasingly frequent and severe heatwaves, with temperatures setting new records. Aiko notes that these extreme temperatures are creating fresh difficulties for energy infrastructure, including solar installations.
The firm further explains that its ABC design can keep hot spot temperatures under 100 degrees Celsius in relevant operating conditions, thereby reducing excessive thermal strain and lowering the chance of ignition. This benefit was also shown in comparative shading tests, where ABC panels maintained lower hot spot temperatures than TOPCon panels in both single-cell and large-area shading scenarios. Hot spots arise when partial shading, micro-cracks, or other internal flaws interrupt normal electrical flow within a module.
Aiko adds that its copper interconnection approach substantially cuts the risk of hot spots linked to micro-cracks. Unlike conventional silver-paste metallization, which often contains glass frit, Aiko’s ABC cells employ pure copper grids attached directly to the silicon wafer.
Additionally, the manufacturer conducted a live demonstration at Intersolar Europe 2026 in Munich, Germany, last month, showcasing the thermal performance difference between an ABC module and a TOPCon module. At that event, Aiko also introduced two new solar products: the fourth-generation Infinite Ultra ABC modules for utility-scale projects and the new Z series of residential modules.
