Talatan Photovoltaic Industrial Park, a China-based PV facility, has linked renewable energy development with ecological restoration in Qinghai Province. The park is located in Gonghe County within the Three Rivers Source ecological security barrier on the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau. Large-scale PV arrays have nearly halved average wind speeds while weakening direct solar radiation across the park. The installations have also sharply reduced soil water evaporation, creating microclimatic conditions that support natural vegetation recovery. These changes have helped transform the previously sandstorm-affected Gobi desert into a more vegetated landscape. The region has combined abundant hydropower, solar, and wind resources through a closed-loop renewable development pathway. Renewable energy development supports ecological restoration, while ecological recovery has contributed to continued industrial upgrading. The Talatan model provides a reference for coordinating energy development and ecological governance across arid and semi-arid regions.
