European Energy secures funding for a 58 MW solar and battery development in Australia – Energies Media

In Europe, countries are more aligned and united in the way that they pursue energy projects. Although countries may be vying to become leaders in the generation of a certain energy source, the competition does not get in the way of the continent’s overall targets. Because of this harmony among countries, they frequently depend on each other’s companies to execute energy projects of the highest quality and the most energy generation capability. Importantly, European governments have shown a greater willingness to support companies by making the approval process smoother sailing. As of late, European Energy has secured funding for a 58 MW solar and battery development in Australia.
Every continent has companies that are seen as the leaders in the execution or generation of a certain energy source, and in most cases, they emerge from the country that is the leader in that continent. European Energy is a Danish renewable energy company that develops, constructs, finances, and operates renewable energy projects across wind, solar, Power-to-X, and battery storage in more than 25 countries.
One of the keys to success in the current energy landscape lies in a company’s diversity and ability to deliver a wide range of projects rather than being focused on a single one. European Energy covers the full value chain from project development all the way to asset management and operations.
According to a press release from European Energy, the company reached a financial close on the Mokoan Hybrid Solar Farm and Battery Project in Victoria, Australia. Deutsche Bank has supplied a non-recourse financing package to refinance the existing debt on the operational Mokoan Solar Farm and back construction and operation of the co-located 40 MW/80 MWh battery storage system.
One of the biggest barriers to the commencement of projects is the availability of sufficient funding, so when a company is able to reach agreements, this makes the building of energy facilities much simpler.  The Mokoan Solar Farm is located on 94 hectares of land, roughly 25 kilometers south-west of Wangaratta in northern Victoria.
The 58 MW solar farm has been functional since June 2025 and already generates an estimated 113 GWh of electricity per year, which is enough to power more than 18,000 homes. The project was selected under the Australian Government’s Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS), which provides long-term revenue support for renewable energy projects.
Relationships are seen as highly important in the energy industry because they allow a company to be selected to lead a variety of energy projects. The co-located 40MW/80 MWh battery storage system is AC-coupled to the solar farm and is now moving into the construction process.
Nowadays, there is an ongoing trend where developers are combining energy generation and storage facilities, with the overall aim being to maintain energy availability in situations where energy generation is not a possibility. When operational, the facility is expected to support grid stability and greater integration of renewable energy into the Victorian grid.
A company with such an extended reach as European Energy is likely to be at the heart of the energy industry’s transformation. Catriona McLeod, who is the Managing Director of European Energy Australia, stated the following:
“Reaching financial close on Mokoan is an important milestone for our Australian portfolio. Deutsche Bank’s support spans both the refinancing of the operational solar farm and the construction financing for the battery storage system, giving us a strong foundation for the next phase of the project.”
As of 2026, European Energy has a global pipeline of approximately 65 GW and is active across Europe, Australia, North America, and more. When a company is willing to expand globally, its presence increases and so does its overall reputation as an energy developer.
