The National Automotive Leasing and Salary Packaging Association’s (NALSPA) Q2 2026 analysis found outer-suburban and growth-area communities dominated the top 10 postcodes nationally for battery electric vehicles purchased through novated leasing and the discount.
Importantly, all 10 postcodes had rooftop solar densities above their respective state or territory averages, highlighting the relationship between household solar and EV adoption.
Victoria performed particularly strongly, accounting for five of the top 10 postcodes. Tarneit, in Melbourne’s west, ranked first nationally, followed by Werribee.
Kellyville and Marsden Park in NSW were third and fourth respectively, followed by Coombs in the ACT. Clyde North, Springfield Lakes, Craigieburn, Cranbourne and Baulkham Hills completed the top 10.
Solar density among the leading postcodes ranged from 36 per cent in Werribee to 59 per cent in Marsden Park, compared with a national average of 41 per cent.
The figures come amid accelerating EV demand, with recent FCAI and Electric Vehicle Council data showing battery electric vehicles represented more than one fifth of Australian new-vehicle sales during July.
NALSPA CEO Rohan Martin said the results demonstrated the appeal of combining electric vehicles with household solar.
“Working Australians and their families living in the outer suburbs where rooftop solar is widespread are making the switch to EVs in record numbers and they’re turning to the Electric Car Discount to help make it a reality,” Martin said.
He said households covering significant distances could achieve further savings where rooftop solar and home batteries allowed vehicles to be charged using lower-cost household energy.
“Together, rooftop solar, home batteries and the Electric Car Discount are giving working families greater control over two of their largest household expenses – energy and transport,” Martin said.
