The U.S. is one of the leading solar energy producers, which means the nation is closely observed by competitors. Additionally, U.S.-based companies have shown a willingness to create blueprints that other nations can apply in their solar energy projects. As of late, T1 called for a U.S. polysilicon import price floor to reinforce domestic solar supply chains and manufacturing investment.
T1 Energy is an energy solutions provider that is currently focused on building an integrated U.S. supply chain for solar. In December 2024, the company completed a transformative transaction that positioned it as one of the leading solar manufacturing companies in the U.S. with a supporting solar and storage strategy.
The company is headquartered in Austin, Texas, United States, but has expressed plans to expand its operations in America and Europe. If successful, it will enhance its overall reputation and chances of being appointed to spearhead many groundbreaking projects.
Interestingly, T1 Energy was formerly known as FREYR Battery Inc. before rebranding in February 2025 after changing its focus from large-scale battery development to building an integrated U.S. solar and storage supply chain.
According to a press release from T1 Energy, the company is in full support of the decision that was recently taken by the Trump Administration after an extensive Section 232 investigation. The investigation is aimed at taking important steps to combat market dumping and manipulation while also enhancing American manufacturing, establishing high-quality job opportunities, and guaranteeing a thriving domestic solar industry.
Interestingly, the Trump Administration finds itself at the center of clean energy initiatives after it controversially halted wind energy projects that companies had already partially completed. The Administration’s decision in that instance was heavily criticized by energy industry enthusiasts because it undermined the amount of money and time that developers had already invested in the projects.
The reason why T1 agrees with the Trump Administration is that the company believes setting a minimum import price on polysilicon and derivative products supports the U.S. solar industry, which can provide scalable, dependable, and low-cost energy to Americans and American electricity grids.
From T1’s perspective, reinforcing the domestic solar supply chains is likely to support American jobs, manufacturing, and energy availability. The company believes that the new policy is supportive of T1’s strategy to build a leading vertically integrated solar supply chain. This consists of previously disclosed supply contracts for American polysilicon and wafers from Hemlock Semiconductor and Corning.
The company’s 5GW solar module facility, G1_Dallas, is capable of producing enough solar modules per year that can generate electricity equivalent to the use of more than one million American homes. The company currently has the 2.1 GW solar cell fab, G2_Austin, which is under construction and expected to produce its first solar cells in Q1 2027.
There are massive hopes that T1 Energy can play an integral role in the clean energy transition and beyond. Dan Barcelo, Chairman and CEO of Austin-based T1 Energy, stated the following:

For too long, America forgot how to build. Now, we’re building energy again.”
The year 2026 has shown that the United States is intent on growing its local solar energy sector instead of overly relying on foreign companies to execute clean energy projects.
