ENGIE and QTS Sign 48 MWac Solar PPA in Texas – energynews.pro

ENGIE signs a 48 MWac solar power purchase agreement with QTS for its Texas data centers, paired with a parallel contract with ABEI Energy tied to the Lubio Solar project.
ENGIE announced a 48 megawatt alternating current (MWac) solar power purchase agreement (PPA) with QTS, aimed at supplying renewable energy to the company’s data center operations in Irving, Texas. The agreement was executed in parallel with a long-term PPA between ENGIE and ABEI Energy, securing renewable generation from the Lubio Solar project, located in north-central Texas. Together, the two contracts strengthen the long-standing partnership between ENGIE and QTS while expanding ENGIE’s renewable footprint in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) market, the state’s grid operator.
QTS is a long-standing ENGIE customer, and the agreement reflects continued collaboration around renewable energy solutions tailored to the growing needs of the data center industry. Data center demand is fueling investment in US solar, as illustrated by Dimension Energy raising 857 million dollars for its distributed solar growth, while the supply chain is being reinforced through SEG Solar opening its second solar module plant in the United States. This backdrop is pushing energy suppliers to structure offers that combine renewable generation with retail supply.
“This project is a meaningful step forward in our renewable energy strategy, supporting the long-term sustainability and operational resilience of our Texas footprint,” said Travis Wright, Vice President Energy and Sustainability at QTS. The executive said that by partnering with ENGIE, QTS is able to secure reliable renewable procurement while simplifying delivery through its retail supply arrangement. According to Wright, this type of collaboration helps align clean energy procurement with the operational needs of data centers.
Taymur Bunkheila, Regional Vice President, Key Accounts and Energy+ at ENGIE North America, said data center customers continue to seek long-term, dependable renewable energy solutions aligned with both operational and sustainability goals. According to the executive, ENGIE’s global experience and integrated capabilities enable the company to structure customized solutions that combine renewable generation with retail power supply.
Lubio Solar is an approximately 61 MWac solar project currently ahead of its commercial-operation date, located in Kaufman County, Texas, and developed by ABEI Energy. Once operational, the project is expected to generate approximately 150 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of clean electricity annually, equivalent to avoiding 100,778 metric tons of CO2 emissions per year, according to ENGIE. The transaction marks ABEI Energy’s first renewable energy deal with ENGIE in the United States, building on an established partnership between the two companies in Europe.
ENGIE ranks first worldwide in corporate renewable PPAs according to BloombergNEF’s 2025 benchmark, with 3.6 gigawatts (GW) signed in 2025 and 13.8 GW contracted since 2011. This cumulative total over the 2011-2025 period remains the highest in the sector according to the agency, built on long-term partnerships with major technology companies and a growing business-to-business customer base.
As US data centers increase their demand for renewable power, ENGIE continues to deploy solutions integrating renewable generation, retail supply and energy management. The three-party agreement between ENGIE, QTS and ABEI Energy demonstrates this ability to structure customized arrangements that support the growing energy needs of the data center sector.
