A large solar-and-storage project planned for Tulare County in California is already bringing benefits to the community.
In the second quarter of 2026, Mineral King Renewable Energy distributed $7,500 in community grants to three local groups, with the funds going to a cultural festival, a youth boxing effort, and improved football and cheer equipment.
According to The Business Journal, the grant money came from the solar-and-storage development, a 200-megawatt solar-and-storage development from Vesper Energy.
Grant recipients were Farmersville Aztecs Youth Football and Cheer, the American GI Forum, and the Tule River Parkway Association. Farmersville Aztecs Youth Football and Cheer plans to buy upgraded equipment, while the American GI Forum will use its share for a youth boxing program. The Tule River Parkway Association is funding the Elderberry Festival, a community event centered on local culture and traditions.
When it is finished, the project is expected to produce enough electricity to serve more than 20,000 homes in California.
Plans call for ground-mounted solar arrays and storage infrastructure on about 2,000 to 2,500 acres of privately owned land in Tulare County. Pairing solar generation with storage can make renewable power more practical by saving energy for periods of higher demand or reduced sunlight.

More locally produced renewable power can help strengthen the electric grid and reduce dependence on dirtier energy sources. Projects like this may also help blunt some of the fuel-price swings that contribute to higher energy costs for households and businesses.
Expanding carbon-free electricity can help cut air pollution tied to burning fuel sources for power, which matters for communities across California that already face air-quality challenges.
Along with creating short- and long-term jobs that could benefit local, regional, and state economies, the project is expected to support California’s Renewable Portfolio Standard target of carbon-free electricity by 2045. Completion is anticipated in 2029.
That community support is taking the form of youth programs, better athletic equipment, and events that highlight local traditions.
The Mineral King project is part of a move toward pairing solar with battery storage. That approach can help cities, utilities, and companies add more renewable electricity without sacrificing reliability, a step toward states meeting their clean energy goals.
If the project stays on schedule, Tulare County residents could see the effects in several ways, including community funding, employment opportunities, and a future source of carbon-free electricity.
