Zelestra has reached full commercial operation at the 27.5 MWdc Klevenow solar plant in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, marking the renewable energy company’s first project to enter operation in Germany.
The project represents an important step in Zelestra’s expansion in the German renewable energy market, where the company is developing a pipeline of more than 2 GW across solar, wind, hybrid and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects.
Klevenow was awarded through Germany’s Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) tender system and was completed in less than six months. According to Zelestra, construction supported around 40 jobs.
The solar plant comprises approximately 42,300 photovoltaic panels and is expected to produce around 28,700 MWh of clean electricity each year.
Zelestra estimates that this generation will help avoid approximately 9,500 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually, while contributing renewable electricity to commercial and industrial energy demand in the nearby Pomeranian Triangle.
Klevenow is only the first of several projects Zelestra expects to advance in Germany during 2026. The company plans to begin construction of two additional solar projects and its first German BESS project in the second half of the year.
Once these developments move forward, Zelestra expects its combined operational and construction-stage capacity in Germany to exceed 200 MW.
“Bringing Klevenow into operation is an important milestone for Zelestra in Germany. It demonstrates our ability to move quickly from development into construction and operations, while building a strong platform for further growth,” said Mathias Kuenicke, CEO Germany at Zelestra.
“With two additional solar projects and our first German BESS project expected to start construction in the coming months, we are on track to grow our capacity in the country to more than 200 MW,” Kuenicke added.
He also thanked the team responsible for delivering Klevenow on schedule and establishing the company’s first operational presence in the German market.
Zelestra’s expansion in Germany accelerated following its acquisition of East Energy in October 2024. Since then, the company has moved projects from development into construction and commercial operation as it builds a broader presence in one of Europe’s largest renewable energy markets.
Its German development pipeline now exceeds 2 GW of solar, hybrid, wind and BESS projects, indicating that battery storage and hybridisation will play an increasingly important role alongside conventional renewable generation.
Zelestra currently employs 70 people in Germany and operates offices in Berlin, Hamburg, Düsseldorf and Rostock.
With Klevenow now commercially operational and three more projects scheduled to enter construction before the end of 2026, the company is moving from its development phase towards a larger operational footprint in the German renewable energy sector.
