Minooka Village Administrator Dan Duffy spoke with WCSJ about repairs and the rebuilding of Well #9. He said the board ratified the contract for that work.
“Well number nine was coming up on twenty years. We’ve had several issues with it over the last couple years. So, we’ve split the emergency repairs when that stopped working into two phases. First phase is just to bring it out, pull the well, bring it up, strip all the equipment down to see if there’s an issue. That’s around $41K to see exactly what the issue was. And then and then, obviously, once we found the issue had to be rebuilt. And that was the additional phase two of $285K. So altogether, it was a little over $300K to pull that well and get it back into working condition. Since one of those things, it’s a must have. You know, folks got to have water. We got to have the ability to have all wells working. Just in case one goes down, we run the other ones a little bit harder and pick up that pick up that slack. But this fell in line. We had a well, had to be repaired a couple years ago. It was a little over $300K as well. So, it’s just something we have to have, the residents have got to have. And, at the end of the day, we executed that contract last night. So those repairs were already done. This just ratifies that contract.”
 He also talked about a solar project on Ridge Road.
“One of the last actions taken by the village board last night was an access agreement for the Water Lily solar project. And folks familiar with Manuka, if you go north of town on Ridge Road, you’ll see two solar projects already built on your right-hand side just north about a mile. They were going to come in and build at the county level, the county. Kendall County was gracious enough to tell them, well, no. Please go down and annex into the village and work with the village to situate that project there because it’s going right on the main drag there on Ridge Road. You can see it right off it, and it’d be taking a valuable future commercial space from gas stations to car dealerships to grocery stores. The solar folks understood that, and they worked with us to carve out nine acres on the corner of Wildey and Ridge Road so we don’t miss out on all the commercial. We at least get something out of the deal.”
Duffy added that the last board action taken was to provide access to the farm and donate those nine acres, on the corner, for future development.
