SEG Solar, a US-based solar module producer, has launched commercial-scale output of heterojunction (HJT) modules at its second American factory, situated in Tomball, Texas. The inaugural HJT module has come off the line at the Tomball site in the Greater Houston area, raising SEG Solar’s advanced module production capacity in North America to 6GW.
According to SEG Solar, its HJT modules provide greater bifaciality, a reduced temperature coefficient and less degradation compared with standard photovoltaic technologies, which can enable more energy generation over a module’s lifetime. The company stated it will keep enhancing its HJT offerings and boosting module efficiency as it broadens adoption of the technology.
Jim Wood, CEO of SEG Solar, remarked that amid fresh policy hurdles, SEG has intensified its focus on American manufacturing. He noted that with Tomball now operational and a fully traceable domestic supply chain, the company is speeding toward its objective of becoming the largest crystalline silicon module manufacturer in America.
In August 2026, SEG Solar opened the 4GW module manufacturing facility. At the time of the opening, the company said the site represented a US$200 million investment and spanned over 500,000 square feet. SEG characterized it as one of the biggest HJT module manufacturing facilities in the US. The plant integrates AI-enabled inspection and sophisticated production scheduling systems to aid quality control, product traceability and manufacturing efficiency.
SEG Solar brought its first 2GW manufacturing plant into service in August 2024 and dispatched its initial utility-scale module order from its Texas manufacturing operations to Avangrid in August last year.
In June 2026, the firm unveiled plans for a third US module manufacturing plant, with 4.6GW of annual nameplate capacity, which is anticipated to bring its total operational manufacturing capacity to 10.6GW. The 1.15 million-square-foot facility was slated for Greater Houston, Texas, with construction aimed for completion by March 2027 and commercial HJT module production set to commence in May 2027.
The Texas module plant comes after the company’s December 2025 announcement of a 3GW ingot and wafer facility in Indonesia, with construction scheduled to begin in Q2 2026.
Established in 2021 and headquartered in Houston, Texas, SEG Solar has shipped over 7.5GW of modules worldwide, according to the company. At the close of 2025, SEG possessed 6.5GW of annual global module production capacity.
The company is also creating a domestic solar manufacturing campus that will encompass US-based cell production targeted to start in 2028. SEG Solar said the campus is designed to achieve vertical integration across the solar manufacturing chain, from ingots and wafers through to cells and modules.
