Alight, an independent power producer based in the Nordics, has purchased a 40-project utility-scale solar PV portfolio in southern Sweden from Soltech Energy Solutions, a Swedish developer. The planned combined capacity of these projects is roughly 2GW.
The sites span Sweden’s SE3 and SE4 electricity price zones, and most come with options for co-located battery energy storage systems. With this deal, Alight‘s Nordic development pipeline for solar PV and energy storage now exceeds 5GW.
The transaction with Soltech Energy Solutions, which operates as a subsidiary of Soltech Energy Sweden, closed after Sweden’s Inspectorate of Strategic Products granted approval.
Alight will oversee further development of the projects, covering permitting and grid connection tasks, and will move the portfolio toward ready-to-build status. According to the company, the projects will mainly be developed for long-term power purchase agreements. Through this PPA approach, Alight develops, constructs, owns and operates the solar parks, then sells the electricity produced to commercial and industrial buyers at fixed prices over long terms.
Warren Campbell, Alight’s CEO, stated that the acquisition reinforces the company’s position as a leading solar player in the Nordics and provides sufficient scale to continue expanding in Sweden for years ahead. He observed that having a portfolio with secured land, permits underway and space for battery storage enables the company to achieve ready-to-build status more quickly than if it started new projects from the beginning.
Christoffer Caesar, CEO of Soltech Energy Solutions, explained that the portfolio was assembled over multiple years and progressed from early development to its present maturity. He added that the projects are now at a stage where a long-term investor is better positioned to guide them toward an investment decision and construction, and he voiced the company’s desire to maintain its productive partnership with Alight going forward.
This acquisition broadens Alight’s current utility-scale solar development work in the Nordic region. The IPP recently opened the 215MWp Lidso Solar Park in Lolland, Denmark, which it called one of the largest solar parks in the Nordic area. It also recently opened the 101MWp Eurajoki Solar Park in Finland alongside automotive supplier Autoliv.
