ContourGlobal, a global power generation company, and Platte River Power Authority have completed the Black Hollow Sun solar complex near Severance, Colorado. The 324 MWp (257 MWac) facility comprises Phase I at 185 MW (150 MW (AC)) and Phase II at 139 MW (107 MW (AC)). Phase II reached commercial operation in September 2026, four months ahead of schedule, making Black Hollow Sun ContourGlobal’s largest operating solar complex. The approximately 1,700-acre site includes more than 500,000 photovoltaic panels with single-axis tracking technology. It is expected to generate around 608 GWh annually, enough to serve more than 73,000 homes and businesses. ContourGlobal owns and operates both phases, supplying electricity to Platte River under a long-term power purchase agreement. The project supported more than 700 direct jobs at peak construction activity.
