Construction has wrapped up on DTE Energy‘s 100MW Cold Creek Solar Park, a Michigan-based utility project. Situated close to Coldwater, this solar facility represents one piece of a 650MW photovoltaic portfolio tied to an offtake arrangement the utility reached with automaker Ford Motors during 2022. The investment flowed through the company’s CleanVision MIGreenPower initiative, a scheme that lets residential and commercial customers link their power consumption to renewable sources.
Before Cold Creek reached completion, DTE Energy had already launched commercial operations at a pair of other solar plants during the year: the 195MW Mission Road facility in June and the 146MW Fish Creek project in August. Those two installations likewise fall under the MIGreen Power umbrella.
Matt Paul, who serves as president and chief operating officer of DTE Electric, remarked that the MIGreenPower effort assists corporations such as Ford in meeting their sustainability objectives while the utility constructs renewable generation infrastructure meant to serve future generations.
Under its most recent Integrated Resource Plan, the utility set out ambitions to bring online 15GW of renewable generation, predominantly from solar PV, plus 4.5GW of energy storage across the 2027 to 2046 period. Earlier in the year, DTE Energy launched a solicitation for 1GW of fresh solar PV and wind capacity throughout Michigan.
This renewables goal mirrors broader expansion forecasts for solar PV in Michigan. Per the Solar Energy Industries Association, a trade group, the state is projected to install over 9.1GW of additional solar PV capacity within the coming five years, ranking eighth nationwide. Such growth would exceed double Michigan’s present installed solar PV total of 4.2GW.
By September 2026, upwards of 1GW of new solar capacity had been brought online, placing Michigan on track for a record-breaking year in capacity additions. Virtually all capacity added during 2026 thus far originated from utility-scale solar developments, including DTE Energy’s Cold Creek Solar Park and the 120MW Hart Solar Project in Oceana County, where developer NorthStar Clean Energy finished construction last month.
