Orb Energy Secures $2 Million for East Africa Solar Expansion – https://www.mvapulse.com/

⚡ Quick Read
Orb Energy, a vertically integrated solar provider headquartered in Bengaluru, has successfully secured a $2 million investment from KawiSafi Ventures. This capital injection is specifically earmarked to accelerate the company’s commercial and industrial (C&I) solar expansion across East Africa, with a primary focus on Kenya. Founded in 2006, Orb Energy has established itself as a key player by combining in-house solar panel manufacturing with end-to-end EPC services and financing solutions for C&I clients.
The investment was facilitated by KawiSafi Ventures through its second fund, which targets energy transition and green productivity initiatives. This development follows a period of significant growth for Orb Energy, which maintains its Africa operations headquarters in Nairobi. The $2 million infusion will provide the necessary liquidity to move a robust pipeline of rooftop and ground-mounted solar projects—including solar-plus-battery storage configurations—from the development phase into the construction and commissioning stage.
KawiSafi Ventures, which previously launched a $67 million clean energy fund in 2016, continues to support sustainable infrastructure. Its second fund, which announced $90 million in approved capital in late 2025, is backed by prominent institutions including the Green Climate Fund and the Schmidt Family Foundation.
For Indian EPC contractors and solar developers, Orb Energy’s success highlights the growing demand for integrated solar solutions in emerging markets. As domestic competition in India intensifies, the ability to leverage indigenous manufacturing capabilities to serve international C&I sectors offers a viable diversification strategy. The model utilized by Orb—connecting reliable power needs with structured financing—serves as a template for Indian firms looking to export their expertise in rooftop and C&I solar deployment.
As the company mobilizes this capital, the market can expect an uptick in project commissioning across the East African region. While global VC funding in the solar sector saw a 40% year-over-year decline in the first half of 2026, totaling $1.5 billion, specific regional players like Orb Energy continue to attract targeted capital. This investment underscores the resilience of the renewable energy sector, which remains a critical pillar for economic growth and energy security within the broader India renewable energy sector context and its international footprint.
