Plans inch forward for solar farm proposed in south Puslinch – EloraFergusToday.com

PUSLINCH ― The construction of a new solar farm on the south edge of Puslinch could begin in the next two years.
That's according to property owner Gyongyi Dorgo, who recently shared an update on the solar farm proposed on her property at 3972 Sideroad 10 S., north of Gore Road, at a Puslinch council meeting on Wednesday morning.
Proposed to begin operation in 2030, Dorgo said the farm would have a capacity of seven megawatts of direct current and generate between 25 and 30 jobs for the community.
In addition to sharing an update on the project, Dorgo asked council to issue a letter indicating municipal support for the project, which is a main requirement of applying for a request for proposal from the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO).
The township declined to issue municipal support for the proposal last September following a delegation from Ontario start-up Integrative Project Solutions (IPS), after sharing concerns about following proper planning processes and public perceptions.
Keeping this in mind, council stood by their previous decision and directed staff to issue a letter to the IESO indicating the township is aware of the project but isn't in a position to offer support until its concerns with the IESO process have been fully satisfied.
This resolution should allow the applicant to move forward with plans to submit an application to the IESO in early 2027.
A solar farm is not currently permitted on the proposed lands without an official plan amendment (OPA) or zoning bylaw amendment, which would be completed following the IESO's decision.
Council also directed staff to establish guidelines for how the township reviews municipal support resolutions for IESO procurement in the first quarter of 2027 and send a letter to MPP Joseph Racinsky sharing the township's concerns about the current IESO process.
