Cox, a Spain-based water and energy utility, has signed a 15-year power purchase agreement with Empresas Públicas de Medellín (EPM), the main public energy group of Colombia. Cox has been present in Colombia since 2021, and it regards the country as a priority market in which it is developing more than 20 PV projects. Under the agreement, EPM will buy approximately 115 GWh of renewable energy annually from a portfolio of solar PV projects that has a total installed capacity of 58 MW. Those projects are being developed by Cox in different municipalities of Colombia, and the agreement will involve an investment of €40 million (~ $44.81 million). The energy will be delivered to EPM progressively from 2027, as the solar parks come into operation. Once all of the projects are in operation, their energy is estimated to be sufficient for nearly 55,000 homes and to avoid more than 45,000 tonnes of CO2 annually.
