Elgin, an Ireland-based independent power producer, has acquired the 40 MW Kilderry Solar Farm in County Kilkenny in Ireland from BayWa r.e. The solar farm will stand approximately 1 km south of Johnswell village, where it is to cover more than 45 hectares. Planning permission is already in place, because Kilkenny County Council granted it to BayWa r.e. in October 2024. Elgin holds several development assets in close proximity to the project. The purchase follows the recent acquisition by Elgin of the approximately 200 MW Blackhall Solar Farm in County Meath, Ireland. Dermot Kelleher, the chief executive officer of Elgin, said that the two purchases reflect a strategy in which the company combines selective acquisitions with its own development pipeline. Gemma Hamilton, the managing director of BayWa r.e. UK, said that the transaction creates an opportunity to accelerate the delivery of Kilderry under the ownership of Elgin.
