EVX unveils Australian-made DC fast charger for EVs – pv magazine Global

Sydney-headquartered electric vehicle (EV) charger manufacturer EVX has announced plans to launch a new pole-mounted DC fast charger specifically designed for Australian conditions, building on its existing kerbside AC charging technology.
“We have already demonstrated that public EV charging infrastructure can be designed and manufactured locally and deployed at meaningful scale,” EVX Chief Executive Officer Andrew Forster said.
“Polecharger Rapid is the next step, taking that capability into DC charging and creating a product specifically for the places and conditions in which Australian councils, networks and communities need it to operate.”
EVX said the new Australian-designed and manufactured product will complement its existing AC pole-mounted charging technology, including the 22 kW dual-charging Polecharger, providing EV drivers with a faster charging option.
“Unlike AC kerbside chargers, where charging speeds are generally limited by the vehicle’s onboard charger to 7–11 kW, or sometimes 22 kW, DC charging bypasses this limitation and enables compatible vehicles to receive power at significantly higher rates,” the company said.
“At 40–50 kW, Polecharger Rapid is designed to provide a faster charging option for public locations, with compatible EVs potentially able to charge in an hour or less, depending on battery capacity and charging conditions.”
EVX said it is currently progressing detailed engineering, certification and manufacturing details for Polecharger Rapid, adding it plans to release further technical specifications, manufacturing and deployment details closer to a commercial release.
The company is targeting initial deployments in early 2027 in strategically selected locations across urban activity centres and regional and rural communities.
Forster said the new Polecharger Rapid marks the next stage in EVX’s Australian manufacturing program and will build on the company’s established manufacturing and supply-chain capabilities.
“Local manufacturing is not simply about where the hardware gets made. It is about retaining the engineering knowledge, intellectual property, supply-chain capability and technical support required to keep critical infrastructure operating over its full life,” he said. “We want Australian customers to have an Australian manufacturer standing behind the product.”
The unveiling of the new product comes as the uptake of EVs in Australia continues to accelerate.
A record 157,957 EVs were sold across Australia in the first six months of 2026, a 117% increase on the same period last year, according to the Electric Vehicle Council.
EVs accounted for one in four new cars sold in the first half of 2026, with their market share more than doubling from 12.1% in the first half of 2025 to 25.8% over the same period this year.
