Alstom accelerates its decarbonisation journey with new photovoltaic system now operational at Valmadrera site, covering 30% of energy needs

15 October 2026 – Alstom, global leader in smart and sustainable mobility, announces the completion of a new photovoltaic system at its Valmadrera site, marking a further step in the Group’s sustainability journey aimed at improving the energy efficiency of its industrial operations.
"The commissioning of the new photovoltaic system at the Valmadrera site represents a tangible step forward in our journey to reduce our environmental impact and improve energy efficiency."
The system consists of 250 photovoltaic panels installed across an area of 1,200 m², with a total capacity of 118 kWp. Once fully operational, it will cover approximately 30% of the site’s energy needs and reduce CO₂ emissions by around 35,200 kg per year.
“The commissioning of the new photovoltaic system at the Valmadrera site represents a tangible step forward in our journey to reduce our environmental impact and improve energy efficiency. This investment confirms the site’s key role within the Group and Alstom’s commitment to contributing to the transition towards increasingly sustainable mobility.” said Federica Cordellieri, EHS Director Alstom Italy.
The project forms part of the Group’s global decarbonisation strategy and confirms Alstom’s commitment to environmental sustainability and energy efficiency. At the same time as the photovoltaic system entered into operation, Alstom also installed new charging stations for electric vehicles at the Valmadrera site, promoting low-emission mobility across its own operations.
The Valmadrera manufacturing site specialises in railway electrification and the development of power transmission components for railway, metro and tram lines. It is a strategic asset for the Group, contributing approximately 90% of global exports of railway electrification materials. To date, the site has contributed to the delivery of more than 2,500 km of cantilever systems installed worldwide and 700 km of metro projects using ground-level power supply and rigid overhead catenary systems.
