By Austin Beck-Doss Lander Journal via Wyoming News Exchange LANDER — Since 2023, 268 solar panels — many hand-decorated by local students and artists – have traveled thousands of miles from Lander to Ukraine. Converted into self-sufficient phone chargers by Lander Rotary Club volunteers, the panels help people receive air raid warnings, communicate with loved ones and tackle everyday tasks in the context of war.
On the backs of the panels, drawings and messages offer support and acknowledgement. According to Lander Rotarian Ken Schreuder, recipients have told him that knowing people elsewhere are thinking about them mean as much as the equipment.
Since launching the project three years ago, the club has continued buying, converting and shipping panels as donations allow.
