Texas to account for almost half of domestic U.S. silicon module production in 2027 – pv magazine USA

More than 45% of all silicon-based solar module production in the United States during 2027 is forecast to take place within a radius of roughly 100 miles from the centrally located I-45 Industrial Corridor in Texas, dominated by assembly plants in the Greater Dallas and Greater Houston regions.
These findings are taken from the latest updates to Terawatt PV Research’s new Solar Manufacturing USA Quarterly report that forecasts the capex and production of domestic U.S. solar manufacturers out to 2030.
The state’s ascent to the top of the domestic landscape has been driven by a select group of multi-gigawatt manufacturers. Companies such as SEG Solar, Canadian Solar, Waaree Energies, and TOYO Solar have chosen Texas for its efficient deployment of capital. Often by retrofitting existing industrial infrastructure, these manufacturers have significantly minimized the time between site commitment and manufacturing ramp, skipping the lengthy construction timelines associated with massive greenfield projects.
The broader appeal of Texas as a manufacturing powerhouse extends beyond the availability of empty warehouses or the solar sector alone. Texas has aggressively positioned itself as a leading national destination for advanced industries by leveraging pro-business fiscal policies and targeted economic incentives. Consequently, the state has built a highly attractive operational launchpad that is drawing significant aerospace, automotive, and high-tech expansions alongside the solar manufacturing boom.
It is noteworthy that several companies also have major plans for new silicon-based cell factories in Texas from 2027 onward, complemented by an emerging network of raw material suppliers rushing to meet the rapid uptick in regional module assembly. Then, of course, there is Tesla. Quite possibly, by 2030, this highly integrated silicon-based ecosystem could make it increasingly difficult for other states to compete on inward investment packages. More importantly, it will cultivate a specialized, highly skilled factory workforce in Texas on a scale that the U.S. solar industry has never seen before.
