A homeowner planning a 19-kilowatt rooftop solar system wanted everything to look just right after the installation was finished, but they said in Reddit’s r/TeslaSolar forum that they ran into a snag when Tesla informed them that attic conduit runs are “no longer offered.”
Other Tesla customers, however, said that was not what happened on their homes, with several reporting attic conduit on installations of their own.
The issue surfaced from a homeowner who said they were moving ahead with a solar lease and had been told, “They are telling me, they do not offer hidden conduit anymore.”
The homeowner said they were especially worried about aesthetics because their main electrical equipment sits on the front of the house, which they thought could make any exterior conduit look “terrible.”

In the replies, other users’ experiences suggested the outcome of the installation could depend on the market, the crew, the home’s design, or the installer’s judgment.
“Installed yesterday with attic run,” one Redditor shared.
“It is also possible perhaps that your local area doesn’t offer it,” another speculated.
On its website, Tesla says that its designers “optimize solar panel locations for the highest production and arrange them for the most optimal aesthetic based on the useable roof space.”

Not everyone believed an exterior conduit would be a drawback. One homeowner with an outside run said, “They paint the conduit to the roof color, you can barely see it,”
“Interior conduit runs are absolutely not a must,” another remarked. “For some houses it just doesn’t even make any sense.”
Others noted that the concern could go beyond appearance, though. One described exterior conduits as “a soft spot for a leak” and pointed to the potential for clogging or “critter damage,” at least if unmonitored for long periods of time.
