Nofar Energy completes its third big PV plant near Bucharest – Balkan Green Energy News

After inaugurating Iepurești and Ghimpat (Ghimpați) a month ago, Israel-based Nofar Energy also completed another large solar farm in their vicinity. The Slobozia facility benefits from state support in the form of a contract for difference, secured at Romania’s first round of renewable electricity auctions.
The company connected the new solar power plant, of 73 MW in peak capacity, to the grid for testing, Economica.net reported. It purchased the project three years ago.
Slobozia is south of Bucharest, near the Danube. Twin projects Iepurești (169.4 MW in peak capacity) and Ghimpat (146 MW), also in Giurgiu county, are closer to the country’s capital city. The two solar parks will generate an estimated 430 GWh per year, equivalent to the electricity needs of over 250,000 households. They are set to be accompanied by battery energy storage systems (BESS) of 280 MW in capability and 860 MWh in capacity.
Iepurești and Ghimpat are planned to be accompanied by BESS facilities totaling 280 MW
At the same time, Nofar Energy’s contractor AJ Brand is progressing with the construction of the Corbii Mari solar power plant of 281 MW in peak capacity. The investment involves 434 MWh of battery storage and two substations: 400/33 kV and 400 kV, according to a recent update.
The site of the Corbii Mari hybrid power plant project is in Dâmbovița county, just west of Bucharest. Construction began in December.
Currently it would be Romania’s biggest solar power plant, though several bigger projects are under development or already in the construction phase. According to Nofar Energy, Iepurești is the largest in Romania at the moment. In addition, the Iepurești 2 project is underway.
Nofar Energy built neighboring Serbia’s biggest solar park last year.
