A public information meeting was held Tuesday morning to discuss ongoing plans for a solar energy project that is being proposed in Lower Yoder Township.
Project officials say the proposal involves a property, owned by Piney Run Coal Company, located off of Saint Clair Road.
The project is a six megawatt round-mount solar project which will be placed on a single axis tracker.
Officials with Bear Peak Power say some of the benefits of the project include paying for any utility-required upgrades and providing energy to the local distribution system.
“Part of being a good developer is making sure that we're not impacting our neighbors. This project is very well-cited in that it's completely surrounded by essentially a forest, so it will not be able to be seen from the road and will be blocked; essentially there's no glare that would impact neighbors or nearby roads.”
Organizers add that someone would be monitoring the site 24/7, and that they are working with local emergency services to make sure they're trained to handle an emergency situation.
It is unclear if the project will be approved.
