A solar hub of approximately 5.2 GW is planned near Broome in Australia, and Gingerah Energy, an Australia-based renewable energy project company, has referred it under the EPBC Act. The hub has been named Meridien, and it is intended to power a data centre of up to 1 GW from plants on the same site. The solar PV is to be joined by 1.5 GW of wind, and the 250 turbines will stand within the solar area rather than on separate land. That generation is to be supported by 5 GWh of BESS, while an internal microgrid will carry the power across the site. The hub is to be built in stages that follow the load of the data centre. The first stages, which cover up to 240 MW, are expected to be built and commissioned over two to three years. Public comment on the referral has been invited until 4 November 2026.
