IQNA – A project to install and implement solar energy systems in Palestinian mosques is currently underway as part of the “Energy Security Plan (2025–2027)”.
Palestinian mosques are working to enhance their services and utilize alternative energy sources through the installation and implementation of solar energy systems, within the framework of the “Energy Security Plan (2025–2027)”, Al-Watan reported.
In this regard, the Tulkarm Governorate’s Department of Awqaf (Endowments)—aligning with the Palestinian Council of Ministers’ vision to rationalize government spending and the Ministry’s policy to transition mosques toward alternative energy sources—has continued its efforts to improve services provided to mosques and enhance energy efficiency.
This has been achieved through the installation and deployment of solar energy systems at the Salah al-Din Mosque in the town of Deir al-Ghusun and the new mosque in the Irtah area.
Consequently, the number of mosques equipped with these systems has reached five this month, bringing the total to 44 since the beginning of the year.
Sheikh Ibrahim Wasef, Director of the Tulkarm Department of Endowments, expressed his gratitude to benefactors, financial donors, mosque affairs committees, as well as municipalities and local councils, for their support in strengthening the mosques and upgrading their facilities.
He noted that preparations are currently underway to connect several additional mosques to solar energy systems. Meanwhile, within the framework of the Energy Security Plan (2025–2027), the Palestinian Energy and Natural Resources Authority has implemented a series of measures aimed at increasing domestic energy production, developing electricity infrastructure, and preparing for the reconstruction of the power sector in the Gaza Strip.

The objective of this plan is to increase the share of renewable energy sources to approximately 30 percent of Palestine’s energy mix by 2030—a move that will reduce reliance on external sources and strengthen the sustainability and security of energy supply.
