Elgin to invest $531m in five UK solar and storage projects – Energy Monitor

The investment is expected to support UK clean energy goals and create local construction jobs.
Elgin, a renewable energy company backed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), has outlined plans to invest nearly £400m ($531m) in five new projects across the UK, with a combined capacity of 230MW.
The company expects all five sites to reach final investment decisions by the end of the first quarter of 2027, with four projects anticipated to meet this milestone by the close of 2026.

The proposed developments are located in Suffolk, Leicestershire, Buckinghamshire, and Staffordshire.
These projects will form part of Elgin’s solar and energy storage portfolio and are expected to move closer to supplying electricity to the UK grid following these investment decisions.
Elgin said the projects will represent around 0.5% of the government’s solar capacity target, which aims for between 45GW and 47GW of capacity by 2030 under its Clean Power Action Plan.
Furthermore, the company stated that its investment comes at a time when the UK government is seeking to attract greater private sector involvement in renewable power as part of national efforts to enhance energy security and support economic growth.
In addition to supporting the country’s clean energy targets, the projects are expected to provide construction employment and generate longer-term roles in operations and maintenance.
Work related to the developments is also expected to create opportunities for local businesses in areas including civil engineering, site management, electrical work, and environmental services.
Elgin chief executive Dermot Kelleher said: “The UK remains one of Elgin’s most important markets and this investment reflects our confidence in its long-term future. These five projects represent a major commitment and will help turn the country’s renewable energy ambitions into reality.
“Renewable energy is considerably cheaper than the alternatives and with improvements to grid access and planning processes, can be delivered more quickly – supporting economic growth, strengthening energy security and delivering more homegrown power.”
The plans follow Elgin’s continued expansion in the UK, where the company reports a pipeline of more than 10GW in solar and battery storage projects.
