ENGIE commissions 450 MW of solar projects in India – Power Peak Digest

ENGIE has announced the full commissioning of two solar projects in India totalling 450 MW. The projects are the 250 MW Khaba solar farm in Rajasthan and the 200 MW Khavda solar farm in Gujarat.
According to the company, the Khaba plant is expected to generate around 650 GWh of electricity per year, compared with 350 GWh for the Khavda facility. The Khavda plant benefits from a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited.
Executive comments
Sharing the development on LinkedIn, Pedro Vasconcelos, ENGIE Executive Vice President for Renewable & Flexible Power, said the commissioning reflects the company’s continued effort to build scale in a market undergoing one of the world’s major energy transitions. He noted that as electricity demand grows and energy needs become more complex, addressing them requires a broader combination of solutions.
Vasconcelos said solar and wind remain the foundation, but the energy landscape is changing, with corporate PPAs, battery storage, flexibility and energy management becoming an increasingly important part of the equation and helping build a more resilient power system. He added that ENGIE has secured its first standalone and co-located battery energy storage systems (BESS) projects in India, while strengthening its energy management capabilities to better connect generation with demand.
Storage pipeline
The new capacities add to the company’s recent award of two projects incorporating battery storage. These are a 280 MW/560 MWh facility awarded in November 2025 and a hybrid project combining 200 MW of solar power with 100 MW/600 MWh of storage, awarded in January 2026. ENGIE said it is continuing to expand in India by combining renewable power generation with flexibility solutions.
In July this year, ENGIE achieved financial closure for its 250 MW Khaba Solar Project in Barmer, Rajasthan, with construction expected to be completed by Q3 2026.
