ENGIE has announced the full commissioning of its 250 MW Khaba solar project in Rajasthan and 200 MW Khavda project in Gujarat, adding a combined 450 MW of operational renewable energy capacity in India.
The projects strengthen the company’s renewable energy portfolio in the country. ENGIE said approximately 80% of the construction workforce was hired locally, supporting local communities and contributing to regional economic activity.
This milestone builds on ENGIE’s growing presence in India. The company secured its first battery energy storage project, a 280 MW/560 MWh BESS, in November 2025, followed by a hybrid project in January 2026 combining 200 MW of solar capacity with a 100 MW/600 MWh battery storage system.
With around 2 GW in operation or under construction in the country, the Group continues to grow its presence in India, bringing together renewable generation and flexibility solutions to help meet growing demand for reliable, low-carbon electricity.
“The commissioning of the Khaba and Khavda solar projects marks an important milestone for ENGIE in India, adding 450 MW of new renewable capacity to our operational portfolio. Delivering projects of this scale requires strong execution, operational discipline and close collaboration with local communities,” said Amit Jain, CEO & Country Manager India, Managing Director Renewables & Batteries SEA, ENGIE. “With the majority of our construction workforce hired locally, these projects also reflect our commitment to creating value beyond clean energy generation. As India’s energy needs evolve, we remain focused on building reliable, high-quality renewable infrastructure across solar, battery storage and hybrid solutions to support a cleaner, more resilient and energy-secure future for the country.”
Pedro Vasconcelos, ENGIE Executive Vice President in charge of Renewable & Flexible Power, said, “India is a key growth market for ENGIE, where we are continuing to build scale and momentum as we contribute to one of the world’s major energy transitions. As the market evolves, we also see increasing opportunities in corporate PPAs and in combining renewable generation with more sophisticated energy management and flexibility solutions. Our ambition is to build on this momentum and use these capabilities to create additional value for our customers and for ENGIE.”
Located in Barmer, Rajasthan, the 250 MW Khaba solar project has been developed through Khaba Renewable Energy Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of ENGIE. Each year, the project will generate approximately 650 GWh of electricity and avoid nearly 180 kilotonnes of CO₂ emissions.
Located within the Khavda Renewable Energy Park in the Rann of Kutch, Gujarat, the 200 MW solar PV park has been developed through Enren II Energy Pvt Ltd. The project, contracted to supply electricity to Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd under a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), will generate approximately 350 GWh of electricity annually.
